#19 – Chad Hustedt, DB Morningside 2007
A sophomore starter in the secondary on arguably Morningside’s greatest team ever, (2005, 12-1), Hustedt became a mainstay on the All-GPAC team, garnering 1st team honors three times. At 6-2, 190 he could help shut down the run as well as the pass. Chad was named GPAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2007. He had played OLB his freshman year before moving to SS in 2005. He ranks at the top in school history with 228 tackles for a career and three of the top ten unassisted tackle seasons are his. He finished with 19 career interceptions for third all-time, but he ranks first at MC in interceptions returned for TD’s (3, two in the post season) and INT return yards (527 yards, a 27-yard average). Hustedt was a member of VSN’s 1st team, All-American squad in both 2006 and 2007 and was named to VSN’s All Decade 2nd team in 2009.
#18 – Ross Wurdeman, TE Concordia 2001
The first of the great GPAC TE’s, by many he is considered to be the best. Ross was 6-4 250 and was twice the 1st team GPAC TE in 2000 and 2001. He was equally adept at blocking as well as catching, but his prowess on the receiving end developed into great numbers. He ranks first in school history for receiving yards (2,388), receptions (162) and touchdown receptions (23). His senior year, the Bulldogs shared the GPAC title with Sioux Falls, winning the regular season meeting 17-14. Concordia went on to win a first round game against St Ambrose, before losing a quarterfinal rematch with USF, who ultimately made it to the title contest. Wurdeman was the Don Hansen Gazette NAIA 1st team All-American TE in 2000 and 2nd team in 2001, (VSN started in 2002). He also was named a member of the VSN All-Decade 2nd team.
#17 – Beau Kildow, WR Morningside 2009
Not big nor exceptionally fast, the 5-10, 185 Kildow was as quick a receiver as there has been in the league, fearless in taking routes over the middle. But his work on special teams must also be considered. He holds school career marks in reception yards (3,277), touchdown receptions (34), total touchdowns (36), punt return average (11.9 yds) and kick-off return average (24.1 yds). Beau was a three-time 1st team GPAC WR and for two of those seasons, he was named as the league’s punt returner. VSN named him 1st team All-American in both 2008 and 2009. He was also a three-time NAIA Scholar Athlete. My lasting memory of Beau was taking a short pass in a first round game against Baker in 2008, turning up field and splitting the defense on a 75 yard sprint to the endzone.
